TL;DR
As a group, we can start promoting the value of aspiration by helping people understand what they may be giving up when they vote primarily on the basis of religion, caste, or identity rather than issues that directly affect their quality of life.
Feel free to skip this, but I believe that if each of us takes the time to understand the following and act constructively, future generations may not have to endure the same neglect and disrespect that many people experience today.
The real power of the youth lies in their ability to work at the grassroots level.
Through several conversations with security guards, daily-wage workers, homemakers, and others, I have realized that many people do not consider their vote valuable. They often feel that their individual choices do not matter in the larger scheme of things. The aspiration for a better life is frequently missing—not because they do not deserve it, but because they have never been encouraged to believe it is attainable. Quality healthcare, good education, safe public infrastructure, travel, and even basic economic security are often beyond what they imagine possible for themselves.
Places of worship can provide comfort and relief from life's burdens, especially when people feel powerless to change their circumstances. Many also rely on social, religious, or caste-based communities because they offer a sense of belonging and support during difficult times.
As people trying to align the priorities of our society toward development and public welfare, we should recognize that too few are speaking to these aspirations. Every life matters. If we can help people believe that they can shape their future—by aspiring to a better life and by voting for development, education, healthcare, jobs, and infrastructure rather than divisive issues—we can contribute to building a stronger society.
We should start with our neighbors, the security guards in our societies, our relatives, and even members of our own households. We should help them understand the quality of life that is possible when public institutions function well, infrastructure is maintained, and governments are held accountable. Most importantly, we should help them understand that their individual vote matters and that, collectively, those votes can compound into meaningful change for society as a whole.
